I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream For …..Ice Cream !!!

Different fruit sorbet

What is cold, sweet, soft, smooth and delicious? What is delightful in Summer and exquisite in Winters and glorious in Monsoon and heavenly in Autumn? What is good enough when you are sad or happy or depressed or thrilled? What is perfect for solitude and for a party, and for the couple and for a family ? What is workable in the morning, afternoon, evening and night but are best at Midnight? What is perfect for a date, or a movie or a picnic or a stroll or a movie or long drive? You guessed it right, it’s Ice Cream !!!

Ice cream is sacred to me. It comes in so many flavours, so many colours and is served in so many exotic ways. Be it the regular ones like Chocolate, Coffee, Vanilla, Strawberry, Pistachio, Butterscotch, Caramel, Mango, Orange or more exclusive ones like Almond, Cherry, Fudge, Pecan, Marshmallow, or Saffron, Ice Cream is a winner, a charmer.

Golden Opulence Sundae: $1,000. The Tahitian Vanilla Bean ice cream and specks of Amedei Porcelana, the most expensive chocolate in the world, easily make the Golden Opulence Sundae sounds expensive. But if they do not, perhaps the 24-karat edible gold, gold dragnets, and dessert caviar topping the sundae will.

I love its variations and the ways in which it is served. The yummy Sundaes served in boats and glasses, the Crispy Waffle cones and bowls, the savoury fresh fruit ones, the soul-satisfying milkshakes, the multicoloured Cassata’s,  and the best is the foamy Ice Cream Soda, all are a treat to all five senses.

download-14My personal favourites are Giani’s Caramel Mocha Sundae, Strawberry Milkshake, Indian Stick Kulfi, and Frappe from CCD. We all experiment with our Ice Creams, some add cream to it, some like to sprinkle nuts, some add syrups, some add chocolate pieces. ME ? I have my own quirks like I love to add Vanilla Ice Cream to but mango pieces in a bowl. And add a Coca-Cola to Vanilla Ice Cream in a highball glass. Then I love to add Emerald Green Kiwi Syrup to my Vanilla Ice Cream, and yes, my most crazy one, I love to add crushed sweet crispy to my milkshake. Come to think of it, we all mostly experiment with Vanilla.

Let’s know some Fun Facts about Ice Cream:

  1. Top-selling ice cream flavours are vanilla, with 33 percent of the market, and chocolate, with 19 percent.
  2. It takes 5.8 pounds of whole milk and one pound of cream to make one gallon of ice cream.
  3. June is the month that the most ice cream is produced.
  4. Chocolate syrup is the world’s most popular ice cream topping.
  5. It takes about 50 licks to finish a single scoop ice cream cone.
  6. An average dairy cow can produce enough milk in her lifetime to make a little over 9,000 gallons of ice cream.
  7. 19% of Americans say they eat ice cream in bed. 3% eat ice cream in the bathtub.

  9. Eskimo Ice Cream (Akutaq) is made by using a concoction of reindeer fat, seal oil, freshly fallen snow or water, fresh berries and sometimes ground fish. Air is whipped by hand until it cools into a foam. Akutaq can also be made with moose, or polar bear meat or fat.
  10. The world’s first batch of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream was made by Ben & Jerry’s, inspired by an anonymous note left on their flavour suggestion board.
  11. The primary ingredient in ice cream is air! Sorbet is like ice cream but contains no milk.
  12. Ice cream can be made in many types – regular ice cream, frozen custard, frozen yoghurt, reduced-fat ice cream, sherbet, gelato, and others.

images-32With my age, my choices and preferences changed, but Ice Cream never went out of the top ten charts of my favourites list. I can still see the little me running to the gate as I heard the peculiar bell of the three-wheeled Ice Cream Truck as it rolled in our street and parked at one end. The little money mum kept in my hand seemed like the most coveted treasure at that time, as I will get to eat Ice Cream now. So beautiful is Childhood, Ice Cream always makes me miss that carefree time. But let us not take a detour from the main road. Now I got Bronchitis and Ice Cream triggers the Allergies, so I refrain from Ice Creams, but still, every once in a while I allow myself to be indulgent. It;s so much happiness into two colourful ice cream scoops kept atop a wafer cone. Next time you eat Ice Cream just close your eyes and let your teeth sink in the cold milky heaven and feel each sense getting rejuvenated.

Dig In! 🙂

PS : Tell me your favourite flavour and your favourite ice cream memory. Help me know you better.d1cd5a8225d22b6e69f51c27e7969ae2

    1. Ohhhhhhh ! Is that so ? Never in my dreams I could have imagined that Canada got no quality ice cream parlours and thatit can be too pricey. Sorry for you, visit India, here you can have a good ice cream even for 50 bucks. 😊❄️🍨

      1. I never have 50 dollars, to spend on that. I’m a pensioner and every cent counts. Beside this is the land of ice and snow. Who wants ice cream? I can find it down by the harbour, where the tourists go. Best ice cream I ever had was over 20 years ago in Greece. From a street vendor it was delicious and I went back for another cone. Cheers Jamie.

      2. Dear jamie, i too never thought that quality of ice creams would be bit low there and too pricey, and as sakhi mentioned a good ice cream in India costs 50 to 100 rupees which is equivalent to 1 to 2 american dollars. Cheers and happy blogging.

      3. Dear Ms. Dandelion, One may buy ice cream in supermarkets. Sure, even some better quality like Ben and Jerry’s. Anywhere from $7-10 a box. Enough for around six portions. We have ice cream stores, for tourists. Last time I had one? Was in August? Maybe? Or July? I always read my labelling on products. So much now comes from a factory and has additives. When I was In India in early 1970’s I thought the yogurt drinks were excellent. I am forgetting their names? Made from Buffalo milk. Here in N. America everything is made from cow’s milk and usually only one species of cow. In The US they allow BGH. Bovine Growth Hormone in their cows. Their udders are usually grossly huge. In Canada, this is not allowed. Yet I still buy Organic Milk. For there is a lot of adultery to milks bought at the grocery outlets. I would rather spend my pension money on good quality over quantity. When you are young and employed, all seems attainable. As you age, it is not so easy to do this. The buffalo milk in India, Lassi is still superior, in my estimation. Thanks for your reply and best wishes from me to you. Jai, Jaisatchitanand, Cheers Jamie
